Cameroon’s opposition Social Democratic Front (SDF) party member of senate, Kemende Henry Gamsey has provided humanitarian assistance to some internally displaced persons (IDP’s) from Ngoketunjia division, residing within the Bamenda urban council area.
During a ceremony which that took place recently in Bamenda, the barrister cum senator exhorted the IDP’s to pray not just for the return to normalcy but that the root causes of the ongoing armed conflict be treated as a matter of urgency.
Beneficiaries of the senator’s gesture received among other items rice, soap, buckets, toiletries and maggi. Speaking in the course of the event, Senator Kemende who hails from Ngoketunjia regretted that the division which before 2016 was considered the breadbasket of the region, is now a shadow of itself.
“Owing to the ongoing Anglophone crises, the people of Ngoketunjia division have been reduced to a shadow of themselves to a point whereby they have become known as internally displaced persons, surviving at the mercy of others through humanitarian gestures. What an unfortunate situation,” he lamented.
Since Kemende Henry was elected senator in April 2018, he has on several occasions lampooned the Biya regime for neglecting the root causes of crisis and chasing its consequences. When the head of state, Paul Biya announced a Major National Dialogue to resolve the ongoing socio-political upheavals rocking Anglophone Cameroon, Senator Kemende told TWIF NEWS that the idea of national dialogue was a good initiative, but regretted that deliberations might not adequately address the situation on the ground.
After benefiting from Senator Kemende’s humanitarian scheme in Bamenda, the IDP’s lauded the initiative and prayed that their representative (Senator Kemende) be given more strength to continue to press for an end to the ongoing deadly Ambazonian war of independence.
