The Confederation of African Football (CAF) declared “the loser of the final return by package” the Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca, giving implicitly the title of the African Champions League to Esperance Tunis, Wednesday, at the end of a long procedural battle.
The Moroccans were punished for dropping the return match on May 31 to protest a video referee assistance (VAR) breakdown, believing it could have validated a goal the referee had denied. which would have allowed them to return to a goal everywhere, first leg score.
Meanwhile the Moroccans were also fined a sum of fifty thousand dollars as punishment for bringing the return leg to a premature end.
Formed in 1919,and ranked 7th best African club, Esperance Tunis has won their 4th African champions League 1994,2011, 2018 and 2019.
